I have a confession.
I get distracted in matches from time to time.
I like to believe that we all do.
Don’t ruin it for me.
It’s not like it happens every point, but I’d be lying through my teeth if I said it didn’t happen once a match or so.
For me, it’s usually between points, as I quickly glance at the court next to me to see how their match is going. If the rallies are good, I’ll linger a little longer than I should. But a great point is really fun to watch, don’t you think?
Then there are those moments when I try and sneak a peek at our team mates court to see their score. Casually trying to catch their eye to give or get some signal as to how the match is going. You know how it is. I shoot them a secret thumbs up, or the dreaded down, or I get the excited eyebrow raise and the not so subtle head shake to say “Yes, we’re up!” and then I try and look unaffected as I get back to the game on my own court.
Other times, I’ll be waiting for the server to get ready and I’ll glance over at my partner and random thoughts pop into my head, completely unrelated to picking up a serve.
’That skirt looks so much better on her. Why the hell did we pick this one again? I know my ass must be hanging out of mine. I’ve got to remember not to bend over too much. Oh My God! Are these shorts see through when they’re sweaty???? I can’t really check that now…or can I? NO! Holy crap, just focus!
‘Why do they make these skirts so freaking short?? Seriously, we’re not all built like Sharapova. Well <insert partner’s name> is…the skinny bitch. If she wasn’t so nice, it’d be easy to hate her.’
‘Are those the new Ascics?? Where did she get that color?? I wonder if they’re available in my size on Tennis Warehouse.’
It is just me.
